I keep seeing the word “lucid” everywhere. In my less productive hours of unemployment I was trawling the internet looking for one minute entertainment fixes and came across an article about lucid dreaming. It was all very interesting and described techniques that would allow one to experience awareness in one’s dreams. The best and probably easiest technique is to create the habit of reality checking. Throughout your day you perform a check to enhance your awareness of being awake… I think.

So every once in a while you try to push your hand through a wall or attempt to fly. When you realise you can’t do so you know you’re not dreaming. Kind of obvious you say but what happens is that these little checks become a habit which eventually you will perform while dreaming. So when you suddenly take off and fly round the room your brain realises that you are dreaming and you become “lucid.” Huzzah!

Anyway, since I read this article I’ve seen the word “lucid” numerous times. You could argue that because the article has been at the back of my mind that I am just aware of seeing the word but “lucid” isn’t a particularly common word. It must surely be a sign that I am meant to practice this lucid dreaming and thus set myself on the way to becoming a dream lord who controls the subconscious minds of all who sleep within the devious reaches of my dream powers.

Or not.
