I had a dream last night that I was Esteban from the Mysterious Cities of Gold. That's him in the middle.

Cities of Gold was an anime that aired in the 80s and was compulsive viewing. The story was set in 1532 with Esteban as the child of the sun who held the key to finding the fabled cities of gold. He meets some conquistadors who help him look for his long lost father in exchange for leading them to the cities. Along the way they meet Tao and Zia and together the trio explore South America seeking the treasures of the ancients.

Anyway in the dream I was Esteban and I remember looking in the mirror and my hair being very square with no strands and a black outline. The thing that really sticks out in my memory was that I was a an actual cartoon. And not just any cartoon but one from the 80s which is quite an odd sensation. For a start I only had two dimensions. To look down at my hand and see no depth is disconcerting like you’re a drawing on top of paper. Which I guess I was. I also had very flat colours. There was no gradients of shadow. Just one colour with a slightly darker shade of that colour for shadows. Very odd.

I wasn’t looking for treasure in my dream. I was looking for a person. I can’t quite remember who the person was but I think it might have been Zia. That’s a bit sad isn’t it. In my dream I can’t find the girl even a cartoon one.
